Ownership

Isthmus Eats started in 2018 by Madisonians, and in early 2018 he left Epic Systems and founded Isthmus Eats, a meal kit company based in Madison. The founder Jon Marrone is a Madison resident who built the company locally.

Local Sourcing

Isthmus Eats is a meal kit delivery service that focuses exclusively on the Madison area and sources ingredients almost exclusively from local farms. Their goal for sourcing is first local, then organic. Jon estimates that between 50-75% of all of the items in their kits are either organic, local or both.

Community Involvement

Madison-based Isthmus Eats is committed to providing meals with a minimal carbon footprint, reducing packaging waste and sourcing local ingredients. Limited explicit evidence of nonprofit sponsorships or formal community partnerships beyond local sourcing, though they participated in the Mad Gluten Free Fest.

Our team of 30 Madison-based employees curates, sources, packages, and delivers our meal kits. Customer reviews highlight positive experiences and the owner's personal engagement creates a welcoming atmosphere, with evidence of personalized customer service.

Revenue Retention

We decided to join in on the meal kit craze so that we, along with our community here in Dane County, can simply spend time on the basics - cooking and eating great home-cooked meals (while supporting local farms and businesses along the way). Revenue stays local through locally-sourced ingredients and in-house operations.
